Introduction

A 1930 Royal Circular Order about army vehicles —including aspects such as licence plates, colours, markings, flags and even range and fuel consumption— includes a chapter on car flags. The Royal Circular Order was approved on 14th March 1930. These flags were abolished in 1931 when the Republic was proclaimed and most were readopted in 1936 —except the royal standards and the minister's flag, since there were no ministers in the military junta— by a Decree of 13th September 1936, and possibly were used until the 1945 Decree. If they did, there would have been two minister's flags, one with the Republican arms (on the red-yellow-red square flag) since 1st December 1936 and another with the 1938 arms.

Similar flags in the colours red-yellow-purple were probably used during the Republican era, as happened with the naval rank flags.

In the comments to the flag images, those in brackets are not mentioned in the Order and dimensional data in brackets has been obtained measuring the images in the graphical annexes to the Order. Comments not in brackets are literally translated from the Order.
